On The VICE Guide to Right Now, VICE's daily podcast, we delve into the biggest news of the day and give you a rundown of the stories we're reading, working on, and fascinated with.

Today, we run through the day's biggest headlines before talking with director Steven Soderbergh about his latest experimental film, Unsane, which was shot entirely on an iPhone. The psychological thriller stars The Crown's Claire Foy as a woman who believes she's being stalked, who then winds up in a mental institution against her will. But beneath the plot, the thriller plays with ideas about power dynamics, subjectivity, and surveillance.

"Certainly, it's been my feeling that when you have a female protagonist you've automatically cranked up the intensity of the situation because everything is harder for them," Soderbergh told VICE. "The world is run primarily by men and designed primarily by men, and so they have to navigate the world in a way that men for the most part don't have to consider… The feeling of powerlessness, which is central to the movie, is really made front and center."

Listen to our full conversation with Soderbergh about the power of our phones, our healthcare system, and the conversation going on about what's true and how we should define what's true going forward. Unsane hits theaters March 23.
