Scrapbook’n With Tod – The What Cheer? Brigade at C-Squat

Slumming it with the What Cheer? Brigade, a 19-member radical punk rock marching band from Providence.

For our newest column, we’ve enlisted our favorite mustachioed shutterbug, the illustrious and inimitable Tod Seelie. Tod travels all over the world hanging out at dingy rock ‘n’ roll clubs, has done a bunch of work with the New York street artist Swoon, and was once kidnapped in Rio and held at gunpoint by snarling drug dealers for taking a photo of a favela. He’ll be giving us regular snaps of his music-related escapades, and will be doing some off-the-grid coverage of SXSW here on the Noisey Blog. Check out his blog, SUCKA PANTS, for a better idea of his wild-ass life.

The What Cheer? Brigade is a 19-member radical punk rock marching band from Providence. They recently left the Ocean State for a jaunt down to NYC to play the Balkan Music Festival, but the night before their appearance at the gaudy Grand Prospect Hall the group hit up a rowdy show at the infamously crusty C-Squat. The cops were tipped off by a noise complaint during their set, which is pretty rare at this dilapidated Lower East Side haunt—the shows happen deep within a subterranean concrete room. What Cheer? Brigade was joined by Mirrors & Wires (also pictured) and Swaggerin’ Growlers.

Here's "Saiyan re Saiyan," by the What Cheer? Brigade, and a bunch of photos from last Friday's show:
