Black Lips/Cerebral Ballzy Tour Diary 007: STRANGERS BLOOD ON YOUR FACE

Seeing a decent handful of car wrecks on the road, and even some sort of weird mid-flight military refueling exercise.

It hails while I'm walking outside in Denver, ice the size of large gum balls. Kinda hurts.

We all go to Manitou Springs in Colorado. One of the Black Lips guys really adds to his wardrobe from the shops there. Honor gets a poncho and the rest of Ballzy ends up playing skee-ball and winning candy.

Honor runs afoul of the venue in Tucson and gets banned. The Black Lips step up and have his back though.

Tucson show has a great opening act: Acorn Bcorn.

During the Black Lips set, a guy gets on stage and wipes his blood all over Jared's face. It turns out to be real blood. Jared takes it in stride.

Honor passes out in the dirt outside an after party in tucson that we got kicked out of.

"I've got the spins so bad I can see behind me."

We all end up crashing in Cole & Jared's room in the Congress Hotel.

We eat at Grill in Tucson. Mel snorts a plate of bacon grease for $10.

We get a history lesson about Dillinger and the Congress Hotel from the proprietor of the bar who's been there since the 50s.

Honor does some music shopping.

Jared and the copy of SPIN Magazine they picked up that morning, with themselves on the cover.

Joe and a big fire a few blocks from the venue in Phoenix.

The venue divides the room in half with metal barricades to make a 21+ area. Ian decides it's a little intrusive during Ballzy's set and cuts it free and puts the barricade on stage with Ballzy. A kid at the Phoenix show drove all the way from Tucson to see the show again.

We head to an after party behind a brothel in Phoenix at a punk warehouse space. Honor tries to drop in on the kiddie slide.
Whenever you can't find one of the band members at a party, just check any of the tangles of bodies making out in the shadows.

"You're too drunk to drive… You can't run away!"

Stony the tour mouse is starting to look like we feel: a bit worse for wear. Had to limp our way from Phoenix to Costa Mesa due to some van problems.
