You Can Now Get Drunk on Dr. Steve Brule’s Sweet Berry Wine

Everyone knows wine was invented by the Romans for orgies, but perhaps no one knows it better than Dr. Steve Brule (John C. Reilly), reporter-at-large, frood expert, and resident cousin-lover on Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! Now, it looks like the rest of us lowly denguses are going to get a chance to try Brule’s famous sweet berry wine—a gift bestowed upon the world by none other than Eric Wareheim himself.

Wareheim, Awesome Show‘s co-creator, is launching his own wine label this Friday called Las Jaras Wines. It’s selling some standards: a cabernet sauvignon, a carignan, and a rosé. But it’s also selling Sweet Berry Wine—a limited-edition bottle with Dr. Steve Brule’s wine-drenched face plastered right on the label.

According to GQ, Las Jaras has been in the works for about three years, a collaboration between Wareheim and Joel Burt, a San Francisco winemaker. Wareheim told Wine Enthusiast the project launched as a way to bring sweet berry wine off of Channel 5 and into the real world.

“I talked to Tim [Heidecker] and John [C. Reilly] and said, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if we made a Sweet Berry Wine?’” Wareheim told the magazine. “We had two ideas. One, it could be disgusting, like Manischewitz, really sugary wine. Or, why don’t we make it good? We were like, ‘We should make it good.’”

According to Bon Appétit‘s wine columnist Marissa A. Ross, it actually is. In a glowing endorsement of the bottle, she likened it to “juicy, brambly raspberries rolled in soil and seasoned with fine black pepper,” a “fantastic food wine.” It’s also apparently crushable, the kind of easy-drinking red you can chug until your face is stained purple, you develop a hankering for cheese, and you start pronouncing pinot noir like “peanut noor.”

It’ll be available from Las Jaras’s website starting Friday, the same day as the label’s launch party at Los Angeles’s Domaine LA. So unless you’ve got some sort of weird interior rash, feel free to pick up a bottle, slam down a few glasses, and shout “sweet berry wine!” to the heavens.
