Canadian Electronic Crew A Tribe Called Red Return with Yasiin Bey-Assisted Single “R.E.D.”

Hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, A Tribe Called Red are a First Nations DJ/producer collective making music that draws on modern hip-hop, traditional powwow drums, and stadium-sized electronic production, while addressing indigenous issues in Canada and worldwide. Since forming in 2008, they’ve collaborated with artists ranging from Das Racist’s Kool A.D. to trailblazing Native Canadian singer-songwriter Buffy St. Marie, and played festivals including Coachella, Mad Decent Block Party, and Osheaga.

The trio—DJ NDN, Bear Witness, and new member 2oolman—are getting set to release their third album We Are The Halluci Nation (out Sept. 16 on Radicalized Records), and last night they premiered their latest single on Hot 97 host Ebro’s Beats 1 radio show. Anchored by Quebec drum group Black Bear’s chants, “R.E.D.” also features fiery verses from veteran American rapper Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) and Montreal MC Narcy.
