Alright, lads: Field Day has left east London’s Victoria Park. The recent announcement marked a dark day for the fashion Instagram models who used to relish in the ritual of waking up at midday, pre-gaming a few lines on their balconies overlooking the park, then heading in to the festival to get snapped by as many street style photographers as possible. But if you thought the poor sods who have to clear empty Corona bottles and baggies off the trampled grass would be getting a break in 2018, you’re absolutely wrong. A new event – the ten-day long All Points East Festival – has been announced to take place in the space. The line-up for the opening weekend was completed today, and I am pleased to say is the sort that will make you do that thing where you inhale really sharply through your teeth. That is to say, it’s a doozy.
Seemingly plugging a pretty subtle gap in the market for a festival showcasing big indie or indie-adjacent acts who aren’t mainstream enough for something like Hyde Park’s British Summer Time, the opening weekend is pretty full to the brim. On top of already-announced The xx, Björk, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beck, Lorde and LCD Soundsystem all joined the bill today. Altogether, this first weekend, which takes place from 25 to 27 May 2018, actually boasts one of the strongest line-ups for a small-scale festival the UK has seen in an extremely long time.

After all of that aforementioned goodness, the event will scale back “with an entertainment programme of comedy, food, outdoor cinema” and more midweek, before hosting three final standalone shows on the weekend of 1 to 3 June. The first has already been announced – featuring The National, The War On Drugs, Future Islands, and Warpaint who will all perform on Saturday 2 June, with more news to come soon. Tickets go on sale this Friday (3 November) here, and the day-by-day breakdown is below. Victoria Park, our trainer soles will see you again next summer after all.
