Animated Selfie Captures the Artist in 33 Frames

If you think your Instagram selfies are paintstaking, talk to artist James Neilson, who rendered his own visage 33 times in as many mediums to create an animated self-portrait that’s actually worth gazing at. The video below documents his final product in a mesmerizing cycle of animation that seems to capture his face in every angle, color, and emotion possible, all in the span of a six-second loop.

Neilson also makes animated GIFs, including this one of Hillary Clinton as an alien, and the occasional bootylicious short film. But his animated selfie is a reflexive departure from the normally tongue-in-cheek attitude of his work.
