Black Butter Unearth More Future Grammy Winners on Spread Love Vol. 5

Not a label to rest on their laurels, Black Butter Records have responded to Clean Bandit’s Best Dance Recording win at the Grammys last month by promptly releasing a free collection of tracks from their next generation of artists. Their famed Spread Love series, of which this is the fifth release, was the initial launching point for quintessential BB acts like Rudimental, Gorgon City, and My Nu Leng. This iteration, without a doubt, has a star of the near future within its tracklisting.

The 16 tune collection showcases Black Butter’s unique positioning – The label is as comfortable supporting catchy, pop-facing UK house as it is pushing whomp-ed out, club-ready bassline house. And trust us when we say, this compilation is absolutely stuffed full of winners. On the heavier tip, London act Jaded shows up on double duty, as do Tazer and Sly One. On the more melodic side, compilation opener NVOY, Jonas LR, and Space Jump Salute are on the UK house vibes.

It’s a rare joy to get so much new music in one place. It’s a free download, so get your mitts all over it and set to rinse, repeat. The release comes about in anticipation of Black Butter’s Spread Love party, this friday in London. “We wanted to put together a party that would offer people a very different experience to our regular, large-scale Black Butter events,” says BB Head of Events Rhys Bainham. “As the Spread Love compilations are a key tool for the label to cultivate talented new artists, it made sense to use a smaller and more intimate venue so as to keep the focus on them.”
