iSteal: Rex Chapman Pleads Guilty to Four Felony Counts For Robbing Apple Store

The long arm of the law finally caught up with Rex Chapman for his Apple Store theft. He has to pay pack $15,000 and do 750 hours of community service.

Former Kentucky star Rex Chapman, caught on surveillance footage pilfering a Scottsdale, Arizona Apple Store of various gadgets last September, pleaded guilty to four felony counts of theft on Friday. Chapman was arrested last year, but prosecutors declined to pursue charges at the time and sent the matter back to police for further investigation. It seems they finally got the information they were looking for.

Police alleged that over the course of seven visits, Chapman took over $15,000 worth of products from the store via the self-checkout aisle without paying for them. He then sold those items to a pawn shop. Immediately following the arrest, Chapman enrolled himself in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Chapman will have to pay back the store for the items and perform 750 hours of community service. He will also be on probation for a period of time to be determined at a hearing on September 25th.

Jerry Cobb, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, said Chapman pleaded guilty to Class Six felonies, the lowest level of felony in Arizona. Chapman agreed to pay back $15,128.30 to the Apple Store. At the hearing Friday, Chapman agreed to pay 50 percent of that total at the Sept. 25 sentencing hearing. Chapman must pay back the other 50 percent during the length of his probation, Cobb said.

In between his arrest and his (eventual) prosecution, the last time you probably heard about Rex Chapman was when he pulled analyst duties during TNT's "Team Stream" coverage this year at the Final Four, a service where Turner provided homer broadcasts of NCAA semifinal games. Chapman called Kentucky's loss to Wisconsin on April 4th.
