Last week on June 1, electronic music’s American Bandstand equivalent Boiler Room descended upon New York’s Bronx borough for a party curated by arguably the state’s best for incendiary dancefloor romps, GHE20G0TH1K.
The occasion was a special one for many reasons. The party, put on in part by Ray-Ban for 18- to 21-year-old clubgoers, was the second edition of Push Yourself—the second event in the Ray-Ban x Boiler Room series—which, according to the Boiler Room website, features “emerging artists who have pushed themselves and their communities to make their unique sounds heard around the world.” GHE20G0TH1K and its creator and resident DJ, Venus X, specifically, strive to create what she described in a 2013 interview to VICE as a “comfortable and creative” space for outsiders with an eye for daring fashion and an ear for forward-thinking club music.

Fittingly, the talent lineup was just as diverse. Alongside live rappers Messiah El Artista and Tate Kobang; and DJs Kablam, DJ Cueheat, and LSDXOXO B2B Byrell The Great; Venus X went back-to-back with Fade To Mind crewmember Asmara (also one half of Nguzunguzu) with a house party-ready blend of house, R&B, trap, rap and world music that kept the dancefloor sweating. Watch the night unfold below.
