Even before growing one of the classiest moustaches in dance music, German house producer/DJ Butch has always had a certain flair about him that suggests he’s from another time. His freshly cut video for “Dope,” released on his own Play It Say It label, uses some of the snazziest special effects available (or maybe just cut-and-paste), to place Butch deep in the 1970s, in the midst of a sequined nightclub dance-off.
The tune itself is a tightly-wound disco groover with layers of percussion and fab swag for days. It sounds like a field recording from an afro-beat performance in the midst of some crazy, timeless rager, and the look on Butch’s face in this video is the only special effect we need.
