A few months back I noticed that I was getting a bit fat. Slightly concerned by my increasingly rapid weight gain, I did nothing about it except comfort eat. Things came to a head when I went back to my family home one weekend and, as is customary, ran myself a bath. As I plonked myself into the tub, easing into the bubbly warmth with all the grace of Andy Fordham after a night down the Dog and Duck, I noticed that my stomach was rising above the waterline, shaking, heaving, moving of it’s own accord. Reader, that was that. I had to do something. After I’d got out of the bath and made a bacon sandwich. Obviously.
A few weeks after bathgate, I found myself watching Canadian producer Bwana’s Boiler Room set. Sure, the music—two hours of Italo-tinged deep house reverberations—was fantastic, but what really impressed me was the selector and producer’s commitment to keeping fit on the job. He stretched! He guzzled some kind of protein shake from an oversized bottle! He had arms that looked like they could crack a coconut and a coconut crab simultaneously! I found myself so inspired that I went swimming the next day. And twice after that. That’s how much it made me want to get fit!

Now it’s cold outside again and my days drift by in a series of extended fantasies that involve cottage pie and spotted dick and endless flagons of foamy ale, I prefer to spend my time indoors listening to music. Which is good because it’s even easier than doing ten half arsed lengths in the local leisure centre before hopping out and tucking into a Mars Bar as a reward.
All of which is a very roundabout way of saying that Bwana is back with some new music and you can hear it right here on THUMP. “Generation Nostalgia” arrives on the 21st of October on Cin Cin, the fantastic label run by Fort Romeau and Ali Tillett, and it is an absolute beauty. For the 12″ Bwana’s teamed up with mysterious newcomer LOR for a double-headed treat that might be even tastier than a pint of the most expensive guest ale at your local Wetherspoons. It’s epic italo-space-trance-disco and you can gorge on it below.
The Bwana/LOR 12″ drops on Cin Cin on October 21st.
