When Charli XCX says ‘new,’ she means ‘new,’ and a lot of it. There are two days to go until her second opus of 2017, POP 2, is unleashed onto our ears, and we’re now hearing the third new song from it. “I Got It” calls back the shiny hardness she showcased on last year’s “Vroom Vroom,” providing a counterpoint to the sweetness of the two tracks released previously, “Out of My Head,” ft. Tove Lo and Alma, and “Unlock It” which features guest spots from Jay Park and Kim Petras.
What’s best about “I Got It,” however, is the fact that it sees Charli back on a track with rapper CupcakKe, with whom she made the filthy Number 1 Angel standout “Lipgloss.” Here, they’re joined by Brooke Candy and Brazilian singer and drag queen Pabllo Vittar, and all their verses are built around a chorus comprising of Charli repeating the phrase “I got it” over and over, until she sounds like a malfunctioning robot (in a very, very good way), and the features are built around it, kind of like the musical equivalent of a sexy Transformer. It’s finished off by frequent XCX collaborator AG Cook on production, and overall it shows another side to what POP 2 will be. Drop the damn tape already.
