Donald Glover, a tireless polymath, is promoting the second season of his critically acclaimed FX show, Atlanta right now. That’s why he was in the New Yorker earlier this week, comparing himself to Jesus. And it’s why he turned up as a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, talking about the awkwardness of a career in rap music and comparing Atlanta to Curb Your Enthusiasm.
“You’re in the video and you’ve got champagne and butts close to your face,” Glover said. “And then you have to go to Whole Foods. And they’re like ‘you’re that dude,’ and you’re like, ‘please, I just want to buy this ice cream.’”

Colbert then politely asked Glover to demonstrate the subtle difference between Donald Glover the man and Childish Gambino the rapper. The shift, as you can see below, is profound.
The segment closed with Glover buying 113 packs of Thin Mints from a girl scout who’d gone viral selling cookies to the tune of “Redbone.” So, it was all very heartwarming. Watch it at the top of the page.
