Devour the Artistic Power of Pizza

The ultimate artistic collaboration involves both giving back to the community—and pizza. In Mexico, Dominos Pizza commissions artists’ designs for their cardboard boxes to raise awareness for a national nutrition program called Va Por Mi Cuenta. In the latest iteration, the illustrator Scarlett Baily lends cartoonish smiling portraits to 10,000 pizza and snack boxes for the cause. Of course, we’re partial to the power of pizza.

Baily’s black-and-white sketches are happy renditions of youths eating a meal, and a set of cutlery poised for good healthy eating. The illustration and the messaging encourage customers to visit local Va Por Mi Cuenta kitchens and interact with the kids in need there. The “soup kitchens” give kids free nutritious meals every day and work to end malnutrition in Mexico. Baily tells The Creators Project, “They run a really rad food kitchen program in marginalized communities near big cities in Mexico. I went and gave the kiddos an art class and that inspired my box.”

The collaboration between Va Por Mi Cuenta and Dominos was inagurated in 2013 with pizza box designs by artist Jorge Tellaeche. Since then, other artists have participated including Amo Ato and Karimayo. Baily says she was paid in pizza and “warm fuzzies” for her efforts in “raising awareness for a rad charity.” We hope to see more pizza box art in the future, especially when tied to a good cause.
