Elliott Brown Jr., who received his BFA in photography from NYU in 2016, uses portraiture to explore how blackness and queer identity converge. Mainly, he touches on the intimacy, vulnerability, and social perception of the body. His images, exhibited in New York at this year’s Spring/Break Art Show alongside those of Matthew Morrocco and Paul Mpagi Sepuya, question the subjectivity of his viewers. Posing his models in private and public spaces, he challenges any preconceived notions people might have of who a black person can be.
