The FBI Arrests Wife of the Orlando Nightclub Shooter

The FBI has arrested Noor Salman, the wife of the gunman behind the mass shooting at the Orlando gay nightclub Pulse. She was taken into custody in connection with the attack, and arrested outside of her home in San Francisco, reports the New York Times.

In an official statement about Salman’s arrest posted to Twitter, the Orlando Chief of Police John Mina said that she was taken into custody on charges of aiding and abetting by providing material support to a terrorist organization and obstruction of justice.

A source familiar with the details of the arrest told the Times that Salman has been charged with the obstruction of justice.

Salman previously denied any involvement in the Pulse shooting in a November interview with the Times, and said that she had no knowledge of her husband Omar Mateen’s plans for the attack.

When she was questioned by the FBI after the shooting, Salman said that she had been with her husband when he bought ammunition. She also said that she had accompanied Mateen on a trip to Orlando in the months before the shooting, but did not know he was scouting the Pulse location.

Mateen killed 49 people and injured 53 during a Latin Night at Pulse in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, June 13. He died during a shootout with police at the club.

Salman will appear in federal court on Tuesday in San Francisco.
