Following in the footsteps of their music video for “Highway,” Halifax duo Hey Mother Death have delivered yet another wonderfully weird video for their song “The Hills.” Set to appear on their upcoming debut LP, which is now available for pre-order, “The Hills” is a tingling exploration of intimacy. Much like their first video, “The Hills” cascades into a realm of spookiness and uncertainty with little narrative. Directed by Harald Hutter, the video features a couple wandering about an empty mansion, slowly making their way towards each other. Whether the two are even really there remains unclear, and unless there’s a deleted scene with Haley Joel Osment after the end credits I guess we’ll never really know.

“The text of ‘The Hills’ is about sad memories,” said the band. “We have been really lucky to be able to collaborate with great directors/ artists with very different approaches. It’s always really interesting finding the place between their spirit and ours in making videos. Harald Hutter directed the video for ‘the Hills,’ and Harald is almost obsessed with memory and has explored it almost all of his work so it was a perfect fit. Harald felt that the low-fi/abstract/pixelated quality of super VHS, would evoke an old personal memory being unfolded. We are also students at heart of Werner Herzog’s rogue cinema school so we forged shooting permits and broke into an abandoned, haunted, coastal mansion, which added its own low fidelity energy.”
