Iceland Through to Round of 16 with Final-Minute Shocker Over Austria

Iceland knocked out Austria in the final minute of stoppage time to advance to the Euro 2016 Round of 16, capping off an absolutely bonkers final day in Group F. The tiny country’s incredible run continues, and they picked off a team that many expected to advance and possibly even threaten to win the group. Instead, Hungary wins the group and Iceland pushes Ronaldo and Portugal down to third place in Group F, which was, by far, the most exciting group of the tournament.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Austria pushed everyone forward, and had the keeper directing traffic from near midfield, in a last-ditch effort to eke out a win. Iceland took possession, however, and quickly went speeding up the pitch on the counter to try to end it themselves. Elmar Bjarnason was flying down the side and eventually put a cross in front of the goal for Arnór Ingvi Traustason, who put it in with a sliding finish for the dramatic win. Iceland now get to take on another European power, England, in the knockout round.
