Let’s Get Plaintive, Baby! Here’s Some New Sufjan Stevens Songs!

We’ve had a steady drip-feed of new(ish) Sufjan Stevens songs lately, with his Carrie & Lowell outtakes “mixtape” The Greatest Gift coming out on November 24. Today, we get three more tracks, all included on the soundtrack Luca Guadagnino’s new film, Call Me By Your Name.

The two new songs—”Mystery of Love” and “Visions of Gideon”—drive at the same soft sweetness in different ways. The former is a delicate, plucked-guitar, semi-whisper that even rejects audio interference in the lyrics: “White noise / What an awful sound.” The latter is a roomier piano ballad that has Stevens wandering into falsetto. There’s also a Doveman remix of his Age of Adz song, “Futile Devices.” Listen to the whole soundtrack below. There’s some cool Ryuichi Sakamoto stuff on there too.
