Listen to Arcade Fire’s Cover of John Lennon’s “Mind Games”

Canadian indie troupe Arcade Fire’s fifth studio album, Everything Now, will end up being known more for its slightly odd, meta release cycle than the music itself, which was largely forgettable. The band’s Spotify Singles EP, which came out this morning, is something of a relief then: no weird press releases, no questioning the very fabric of reality, no God-awful Twitter debates about What It All Means. An even-more-peppy live studio version of “Everything Now” is alright, but nothing radically different from the original. The band’s cover of John Lennon’s “Mind Games” is a little more interesting. It’s a faithful rendering of Lennon’s 1973 song, replete with a near-identical trance-like violin loop. Win Butler’s voice works fairly well, save for the falsetto moments that trip him up. It’s worth listening to once or twice. You can do so below.
