Last year, millennials drained 42 percent of all wine in the US, and it wasn’t at keg parties. According to a report by the Wine Market Council, 79 million Americans between the ages 21 to 38 drank 159.6 million cases of wine in 2015—an average of two cases per person.
But unlike other straightforward booze such as beer, you’ve still got to know a thing or two about those grapes, and it can often feel deeply intimidating. Chef Kris Yenbamroong of award-winning LA Thai restaurants Night + Market and Night + Market Song sure does, but the restaurant owner has an unusual perspective on where wine culture is moving.
