No. 14 UAB Upsets No. 3 Iowa State

Well, we’ve got our first upset of the tournament. UAB, whose fans in attendance were chanting for the university president to be fired before the game, stunned Fred Hoiberg’s No. 3 Iowa State team 60-59. The Cyclones had a very good look—for a very good shooter in Naz Long—at a last-second three that would have tied the game and likely forced overtime, but it drew iron. It was eventually tipped in, leaving Iowa State one maddening point short with .4 seconds left.

UAB merely heaved the ball down court on the inbound play and that was that. The Blazers move on and the Cyclones head back home as the first top seed knocked off in the tournament.
