Established as an easygoing forum for artists, galleries, and collectors to discuss their shared interest for photography, an LA showcase has evolved into a cultural touchpoint nearly three decades in the running. Tony Vaccaro’s photograph of Georgia O’Keefe displaying a red-and-yellow painting from her Pelvis series captures the abstract artist in her beloved state of New Mexico. The image captures a time when O’Keefe was making pilgrimages to the Southwest more and more frequently. Her exploration of space, the negative and positive attributes of convex and concave curves, is a major aesthetic topic in her Pelvis paintings.
Highlighting close to 80 galleries, the large-scale and expanded nature of the photo fair caters to a gloablized voice as more and more artists join the show’s ranks. Claudia James Bartlett, photo l.a.’s director describes the show’s intent “to continue engaging and supporting the international community” and cultivating new audiences.
Photo l.a.’s 26th exhibit will take place inside The Reef in the LA Mart, and show until January 15, 2017. Purchase your tickets, here.
