The story behind PJU’s lastest track is pretty fucking nuts. As with most good stories, it begins with a night out at the clubs. London duo PJU were out and about in London when they bumped into “bitch house” producer Josh Caffe. They ended up at the same afterparty, and PJU told Caffe about a track they were working on called “Give It to Me,” which was inspired by a classic Chicago house track from 1986 called “Donnie” by The It.

Caffe jumped on the project, and a while later, they ended up in PJU’s West London studio. But when PJU played “Donnie” for Caffe, he freaked out. The hauntingly plaintive vocals that made the original track so memorable were by Robert Owens—one of the most iconic vocalists of Chicago house’s golden era.
The crazy part: Caffe and Owens were good friends.
So Caffe called up Owens, and convinced him to do the vocals on “Give It To Me.” A month later, Owens came into the studio and delivered his reinterpretation of the track he’d appeared on 28 years ago. And yes, it was exactly what “Give It to Me” needed.
“Give It to Me” will be released on Exploited Record’s Secret Gold Compilation Vol 6. The EP was put together by label head Shir Khan, and will be out October 20 on Beatport/November 3 on iTunes. Meanwhile, check out the track that started it all, “Donnie,” below.
