Last time we caught up with Pompeya was over the summer when we asked the Moscow-based band important questions about the kind of food they like to drink when they’re wasted (because that’s what happens when you’re wasted—you drink food) and they responded: “Mostly food from Georgia (the country, not state) that we call Caucasian food. The best are khachapuri, khinkali, and pkhali. Try to say it correctly!” We tried. We failed. You got us. But we’re still down to sample all these delights if you can tell us where to get them.
The perky trio are set to release their new LP, Real, on 5.5 and lead single “Liar” is a glorious taster. A slinky cut of new wave-ish indie, it’s like an upbeat incarnation of The Cure (sans the white makeup and black hair dye) doing a dance with an updated Duran Duran (sans the mullets and penchant of popped collar pastel trenchcoats). And then, just past the three minute mark, they throw in a damn saxophone. So Rob Lowe in St. Elmo’s Fire. Love this.
