Klaves is a 22-year-old hailing from Poznan in Poland. Unsurprisingly for a young virtuoso, Klaves has a background in classical music together with a love for house. His latest single, “Oh No”, feels like it belongs in the UK charts, catering to our current taste for pop-house hybrids. So it’s no wonder that PMR, the label that’s home to Disclosure, Jessie Ware and Julio Bashmore, are launching Beat Club, a new sub-label dedicated to rising stars, with “Oh No”.
While the UK dance music influence is an obvious one, the way that “Oh No” is informed by classical composition, through the dense layering of percussion, synths, piano presets and vocal samples, is more subtle. It makes sense then that Klaves was picked to support Nicholas Jaar on the Polish leg of his recent tour. Klaves, however, doesn’t see his music as belonging to any IRL music scene, as he told the Polish press earlier this year: “the internet is my world”.
