Ever since Loyle Carner stepped out in front of MF Doom (at his debut show, nonetheless) a few years ago, his career’s been on the rise. Joey Bada$$ is a fan. He’s toured with Kate Tempest. You’ve no doubt seen his name on a bunch of ones-to-watch lists. Loyle Carner isn’t just unsubstantiated hype though. His debut EP A Little Late picked up the UK wordsmith scene up from the floor. The majority of Loyle’s tracks have been personal. “BFG” was written about the loss of his father; “Tierney Terrace” is named after a place where his nan and grandad lived, and is an ode to all they did for him growing up.
What follows then, is “Florence”, a track Loyle says is about the fact he “always wanted a little sister”. Listen below:
