Last night London and New York, on New Bond Street and Madison Avenue, respectively, bore witness to the flagship Ralph Lauren stores’ 4D light show spectacular. We always thought the fourth dimension was time, but not so, according to this fashion giant. The fourth dimension in this performance was smell (which, technically, is a sense rather than a dimension), so after giant polo players came virtually charging through the store front, and models walked up and down a virtual catwalk while handbags spun in 3D, bottles of perfume appeared wafting their scent over the crowd. And with that, projection mapping was brought into the mainstream advertising world. And so it begins…
