For this week’s Mahal, photographer Cheney Orr and I hooked up with our friend Rilgood—a rapper who calls himself “the King of Nigeria.” Rilgood immigrated from Nigeria to New York and has established himself as a musician known for his music that he says is “as subtly African as it can get.” While discussing his immigration experience and drinking a bottle of whiskey, Rilgood showed us his neighborhood in East New York.
