46-year-old Roy Jones, Jr. fell in the fourth round to Enzo Maccarinelli in Moscow today and it wasn’t pretty. Jones, a great fighter well past his prime, could not keep away from Maccarinelli and the Welshman landed a flurry of bruising shots before catching Jones with a pair of uppercuts and the final blow to the side of his head. Jones went down and the referee immediately called the fight.
Moments before, Jones was knocked down in nearly the same spot of the ring, again with an uppercut that caught him on the chin. He was able to gather himself and continue, but not for very long. Maccarinelli pressed on and got him on the ropes where he started pummeling him again. It’s always tough for athletes to admit when it’s over, but hopefully Roy Jones, Jr. can call it quits now. This was brutal.
