It’s only a few weeks until the new Spector album drops, and today we’re premiering the video for “Stay High”, probably their most rigorous your-life-is-a-lie jam to date. It’s got a beefed up chorus, clanging guitars, falsetto back up vocals, and that “I’m crestfallen but I’m also having quite a nice time” style of bouncing groove that guest producer Dev Hynes is so good at.
Lead singer Fred Macpherson says “Stay High” is “about keeping yourself distracted while everything around you goes to shit. When all that’s left of your relationship are dates booked on Groupon, and your sense of adventure’s dictated by the offers on lastminute.com, then it’s hard not to want to dislodge yourself from reality permanently.” So there you go: if your love life is dictated by 2-for-1 hot dog and Tango Blast combos at the Odeon then this song is for you.
