As the launch of the Super Mario Maker for the Wii U draws near, Nintendo has posted a video of Mario’s daddy and legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto confirming and dispelling some popular myths about the Italian plumber.
For example, as legend has it, Mario himself is named after the former Nintendo of America warehouse landlord, Mario Segale. In the video, Miyamoto confirms with a silent nod that this is actually true.

However, the theory that the Mario shown on the original Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System is about to lose a life is completely false, according to Miyamoto.
The most mind-blowing tidbit from Miyamoto here is that Super Mario Bros. 3, considered by many to be the best Mario game ever made, didn’t really happen. In the game’s fiction, it was just an elaborate performance, as indicated by the curtains that are pulled up in the beginning of the game. Yeah, you’ve been living a lie.
