The Chainsmokers Got a Bunch of Nominations for the Billboard Music Awards

Today, the EDM-lite pop duo The Chainsmokers racked up a whopping 22 nominations for the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. The disruption-seeking musicians will compete for Top Artist, Top Duo/Group, Top Dance/Electronic Artist, Top 100 Artist, Top Dance/Electronic Song, and more.

Because they’ve been such mainstays on the Billboard charts over the past year, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall even have multiple nominations in six different categories, including Top Dance/Electronic Album, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Collaboration, Top Dance/Electronic Song, Top Selling Song, and Top Radio Song.

The only other artist to have this many nominations is Drake. Ohio rock-ish duo Twenty One Pilots comes in second place with 17 nominations, while Rihanna’s 14 nominations place her in third. You can see the full list of nominees over at Billboard.

Calvin Harris, Major Lazer, DJ Snake, and the violin-toting EDM also-ran Lindsey Stirling are the other musicians nominated for Top Dance/Electronic Artist. Meanwhile, Flume’s Skin, Kygo’s Cloud Nine, and, again, Lindsey Stirling’s Brave Enough are up for Top Dance/Electronic Album.

The Chainsmokers’ “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Closer” are both up for Top Dance/Electronic Song, where they’re competing against Calvin Harris’ Rihanna collaboration “This Is What You Came For,” Major Lazer’s “Cold Water” featuring Justin Bieber and MØ, and Bieber’s “Let Me Love You” single with DJ Snake.

So far in this year’s award season the Chainsmokers have won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording, won Favorite EDM Artist at the AMAs, and five iHeartRadio awards.

Last week the group released their debut album, Memories… Do Not Open.

The 2017 Billboard Awards will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Los Vegas on Sunday, May 21, and air on ABC.
