Ah, celebrities, the fair-folk of popular culture, the beautiful deities whose airbrushed, public-related, meticulously managed lives we follow everyday in order to escape our hum-drum own. Illustrator Rob Hren rejects this status quo, delighting in every crag, crinkle, bulb, and rough edge on the faces of icons like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Charlize Theron’s Furiosa from Mad Max, Rihanna, and more. Some superstars lend themselves to his distorted, highly-detailed style—Christopher Walken and Yolandi from Die Antwoord don’t look that abnormal—but superstars like Scarlett Johansson and Leonardo DiCaprio look less like protagonists and more like us regular people.
