A few weeks ago, actor Mark Hamill tweeted that Star Wars fans eager for a Last Jedi trailer should “Watch Monday Night Football on Monday, October 9th—for no particular reason.” Shortly after, he deleted the tweet and tried to play it off like he was making a joke about football or something, likely after someone chewed him out for ruining the big surprise.
Now Lucasfilm has come clean. The long-awaited trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi will, in fact, officially premiere during ESPN’s Monday Night Football, confirming the beans Hamill spilled last month. It announced the news Sunday via the official Star Wars Twitter, along with an agonizingly short clip of Rey training with Luke on Ahch-To.

Good Morning America dropped a similar teaser with another annoyingly short snippet, featuring Luke taking his old lightsaber from Rey’s outstretched hand just moments after the last scene in Force Awakens. It’s not much, but it’s enough to get excited about.
Last Jedi director Rian Johnson also tweeted Sunday that the new trailer—which will air during halftime at the Vikings vs. Bears game—is “gooooood,” but warned fans to “absolutely avoid” watching it if they want to stay completely spoiler-free.
Does that mean the trailer’s going to be full of some heavy plot details, like who the hell Snoke is, or that Rey is actually the illegitimate daughter of Obi-Wan and Aunt Beru or whatever? Maybe—or maybe the whole thing is just one and a half minutes of Porgs. We’ll have to wait until halftime to see.
Advance tickets for The Last Jedi will also go on sale right after the trailer airs Monday, just in case the sight of Luke’s steampunk hand inspires you to lock down a spot for a midnight showing come December 15.
ESPN’s Monday Night Football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears starts at 8:30 PM on October 9. Catch the full-length Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer during halftime, likely around 10 PM EST.
