Tim Hecker’s New Video for “Black Phase” Is Obscured and Frightening

Tim Hecker has the ability to let his music create huge swells of emotion in the listener, easily painting unique atmospheres and feelings. Visually he matches this well as seen with the video he dropped last night for “Black Phase,” off of his most recent record Love Streams. The video begins with a clip of a man who looks to be captured, before it flashes over to a two-paned video of different colors in which the image is incredibly obscured. You can see a figure convulsing to the music, writhing around on the ground. It’s a disturbing sight, matching the off-putting and strange nature of the song itself, feeling like the perfect representation of Hecker’s music.
