Tim Shiel’s “Time Shield” Opens To A Parallel Universe

Tim Shiel is the best kind of talented, he’s generous with his gifts. Producing under the name of Faux Pas, Tim generated a rich catalogue of music over the years. It was an evolving body of work that included, but wasn’t limited to, experimental electronic pop, sample-based beats, and astral disco. He collected it all, uploaded the songs to bandcamp, and gave it to fans free. Recently he produced a soundtrack to an award winning ios game Duets. It was a thoughtful, minimalist, addictive accompaniment to the arcade action. You guessed it, he’s giving the soundtrack away for whatever price you wish to pay. Earlier this year he reimagined the celebrity-inhabited universe of the Oscars as a cluster of Kevin Spacey’s. He documented the process and set that image free.

It was his birthday on the weekend, but it wasn’t only him receiving the presents. Tim chose the date to release a new collection of music; a document of his short-lived but highly significant Time Shield project. Like all of Tim’s work, there’s many layers to appreciate. Designed originally for an interactive music application, the songs are variations on a theme. They ended up as the musical heart of a series of captivating audio visual shows that featured everything from psychedelic French film sequences starring Vincent Cassell to the Gilmore Girls. The songs are inventive, melodic, and engaging. And now, as a document of that time and space, they too are finally free.
