Get Ready for Some Uncompromising and Unconventional Club Music Courtesy of Italy’s TSVI

Italian club music label Nervous Horizon—run since last year by TSVI and Wallwork—likes to do things differently. For all the wanky talk that buzzes round the internet about “deconstructed” club music, much of it—for better or worse—sounds pretty similar. You get a handful of Ballroom Ha, some Jersey Club spice, maybe a bit of grime as garnish, et voila: it’s club music!

TSVI, who’s latest EP for the label, Sacred Drums, arrives early next month thinks that he’s re-imagining what that sound is, and how it works within the context of the club. As he puts it, “I’m obsessed with discovering sounds from various different cultures and religions so that I can then rearrange them into tracks for the club. The samples that I use often have a very traditional, even spiritual purpose to them, so reinterpreting them for a club setting is very unconventional.”

EP track “Parade”, which we’re premiering below, is a great example of his magic touch as a producer. It’s an incredibly spatially aware piece of music, fine-tuned and prowling, simultaneously deeply heavy and angelically light. It’s the kind of thing you go absolutely wild for at 3AM down in a Dalston basement. Much like the rest of the release.

Oh, and when it comes to the title, TSVI, told us that, “The parades at Carnival of Viareggio, near my hometown in Italy are my favorite. It’s satirical, colorful and certainly one of the best street parades of my region.” So there you have it.

Tune in below.

The Sacred Drums EP arrives on Nervous Horizon on October 7th.
