Here is the trailer for Hail, Caesar!, the new comedy from Joel and Ethan Coen. It looks like this is going to be a Fun Coen Brothers Movie along the lines of O Brother, Where Art Thou? rather than a Serious and Violent Coen Brothers Movie (No Country for Old Men) or a Coen Brothers Movie That Your Film Major Roommate Spends an Hour Talking About but Honestly You Are Not Sure You 100-percent Got (Inside Llewyn Davis). If you are too busy to watch the two-and-a-half-minute trailer, here’s a rundown:
- George Clooney as a pompous 1950s movie star dressed as a Roman guy.
- Channing Tatum! Dancing! In a sailor outfit!
- Scarlett Johansson dressed as a mermaid and also putting on a silly old-timey accent.
- Josh Brolin as a square-jawed Hollywood exec (though every character Brolin plays is square-jawed, obviously).
- Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, etc. etc. etc.
- There’s also a plot about kidnapping or whatever but the point is that this is a new Coen Brothers period comedy with a lot of famous people in it and everyone will have a good time watching it. The end.
