Today, she’s launched her latest ripple of expression in the form of a new collaboration with Nike. Celebrating her fresh role as the creative director of Nike’s Spring Zonal Strength Tights campaign, she’s conceptualised, directed, performed and soundtracked a collection of work that sheds light on the power of movement – by which we mean any form of athleticism or fitness without boundaries.
The first preview of this collab comes today in the form of a one minute short that features athletes, professional dancers, karate champions, Olympic fencers, and even a violinist – and is essentially the most lyrical, textured and stylistic kung fu dystopia movie you’ve never seen.
“Do you believe in more?” asks FKA twigs in the key statement of the film, and she unpacked that more in an accompanying essay. “It is a question,” she explains. “Do you believe that in six months time, you’ll be able to run faster, or jump higher? Do you believe that you’ll be able to stay on the cross trainer longer? Do you believe that you can reach your best physical shape? Do you believe that you can use your confidence to get that promotion at work or finish that creative project? It applies to whatever it is you want to be or do.”
