Texas native Kevin Abstract made one of 2016’s most overlooked albums with American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story. The project perfectly captured the feelings of teenage angst and how to deal with life not always going the way you intended. Abstract’s vulnerability in his music has connected him with young people throughout the U.S. who have had similar experiences, making him one of the lead voices of misunderstood youth. It’s also been his musical experimentation that has helped him garner such a substantial following online over the past few years.
Now, Abstract is ready to cash in those likes and reposts for real-life experiences. In a new VICELAND series called American Boyband, the musician’s life during his first headlining U.S. tour, and the creative process of his Brockhampton collective are chronicled. It shows him making the necessary steps into becoming the lead man and pop star that his fans believe he has the chance to become. The show will air on Thursdays at 10PM starting June 8, but today we’re sharing the first episode ahead of its TV premiere. Watch it below.
