Referee Takes Beer Can to the Balls from Hockey Player's Angry Brother

That looked like it hurt.

Hockey referees face some dangers on the job, as we learned recently when NHL linesman Don Henderson was sent to the hospital after getting nailed from behind by Dennis Wideman. Flying objects from the stands are not supposed to be one of those potential hazards, but here we are.

That was Quebec Major Junior Hockey League referee Dominic Bedard who took a beer can to the balls during a game between the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Feb. 11. The reason? Alexandre Perron, who was in attendance for the game, was not impressed with the roughing penalty Bedard called on his younger brother and Huskies forward Francis Perron, so he decided to waste a cold one on Bedard, and hit him where it counts.

The boneheaded decision cost him, in the form of an ejection from the arena and an arrest. He's due in court May 10 and faces potential assault charges.

Here's hoping Bedard, who briefly left the game, was able to enjoy the next brew he had.
