Rahman and the other refugees come from Rakhine State, where the Rohingya population is concentrated and where they’ve been the victims of government-sponsored attacks for decades. Rahman said his village was attacked by military personnel armed with rocket launchers.
This latest round of violence began Aug. 25 when an insurgent group called the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army attacked 30 police posts. The military retaliated with what it has called “clearance operations.” VICE News traveled to the Bangladeshi border, where more than 300,000 Rohingya are now estimated to be living.
