This Dadaist Net Art Will Bring A Smile To Your Face

Jasper Elings' art often uses images he finds on the internet to create an amusing reflection on the cultural status quo.
It Was A Great Opening

Net art and pranksterism go pretty much hand-in-hand, but no one seems to do it with such inventiveness as Jasper Elings. His work has humor to it, but it doesn't come across as too knowing, instead it juxtaposes the right amount of absurdity with some pathos to even things out a bit.

Like his The Same Old Story which shows two businessmen trapped between two doors set to the sounds of a music box. Or a GIF of Marina Abramović staring at a loading icon. There's also his physical book Picturebook Without Pictures, which cleverly features photos from the internet of "no image" placeholders in all their manifold forms.

It's this Dadaist eye for reappropriating found forms, but using the vernacular of the internet, that makes his work so enjoyable.

Check out some of his pieces below and thanks to Triangulation Blog and their recent post for reminding us of his work.
