The MUNCHIES Cookbook Is Here and You Should Totally Buy It

Before MUNCHIES was the website you’re reading right now, it was a show. A very good show, if we do say so ourselves.

On MUNCHIES, which later came to be known as Chef’s Night Out and now has more than 130 episodes, we saw Momofuku’s David Chang talk about his love of shitty pizza, Enrique Olvera whip up quesadillas with a frighteningly sharp kitchen knife, Anthony Bourdain tell strange stories about Steven Seagal before leading us on a meat-fueled journey across New York City, Dominique Crenn whip up a bitchin’ late-night grilled cheese sandwich, and Eddie Huang demonstrating the proper way to eat soup dumplings before partying at the Russian Baths.

April Bloomfield ends a night of fine dining with picklebacks and pong, and Michael White manhandles octopuses before heading to a shop that only serves puddings with an “out of control” Josh Ozersky. Chef’s Night Out was born in New York City, but soon ventured around the world to hang out with chefs from Los Angeles to Moscow to Tokyo to Copenhagen to Paris to Mexico City (among other places).

It’s a great show. We really like it. We actually love it so much that we made it into a cookbook compiling some of our favorite foods that you’ll see in your binge-watching of CNO.

So finally, here it is, our very first cookbook: MUNCHIES: Late-Night Meals from the World’s Best Chefs, which captures all of the late-night goodness we ate along the way. Penned by cookbook author J.J. Goode, MUNCHIES editor-in-chief Helen Hollyman, and the editors of MUNCHIES, this cookbook is both a memoir of some of the show’s wildest moments and a collection of recipes that will both induce and cure many future hangovers. There are drinks, sandwiches, poutines, nachos, pizzas, and “Things with Tortillas,” and the best part is that all of them were made by super-stellar chefs who know what the hell they’re doing (including including Anthony Bourdain, Dominique Crenn, David Chang, Danny Bowien, Wylie Dufresne, Iñaki Aizpitarte, and Enrique Olvera). So, yeah—this stuff tastes good.

MUNCHIES: Late-Night Meals from the World’s Best Chefs comes out today—October 24, 2017—from Ten Speed Press. It is a handsome and sturdy book with a lovely metallic foil seal that glimmers and shines as bright as the smiles of the drunken hosts on Chef’s Night Out.
