Smørrebrød—not to be confused with the Swedish smörgåsbord—is a Danish staple that goes back centuries.
Essentially, it’s an open-face sandwich, meaning that, like pizza, it’s literally a blank canvas for your favorite ingredients. This particular smørrebrød is courtesy of Halaigh Whelan-McManus, sous-chef of the three-Michelin-starred restaurant Maaemo, so it’s as refined as it is easy.
