I’ve been pretty adamant not to care about The Strokes, since the beige coloured bore-fest of Angles was released. The record sounded like a band that didn’t want to be in a room together. It was the audio accumulation of a band oiling their joints and getting back into formula. They sounded bored and they sounded cashed in. The new single, “One Way Trigger” could not be further flung in the opposite direction.
It sounds like Tommy Vercetti cruising down the strip on a PCJ 600. It sounds like flamingos and it reeks of those cocktails that have little umbrella sticks stuck in them. This could be the most flamboyant thing that The Strokes have ever done and it’s great.
