I fucking love SpaceGhostPurrp. Not in a fleeting, buzz-rapper guy-crush kind of way, but in a “I want to listen to the God Of Black mixtape on an eternal loop, give up absolutely everything in my life, move to Florida and become his stylist/ best friend” way. So, naturally, I was hyped to hell when I found out I was going to be styling him for a shoot. His people told me I’d have him for a hip-hop two hours, which normally translates to a hurried half hour between other commitments, but as soon as he realised all the clothes I was putting him in were, in his words, “dark AF (as fuck)”, he was instantly way more keen to stick around, try on outfits and talk about video games and Marvel comics.
A few more things I learnt about Purrp on the shoot that made me love him even more include the fact that his real name is Muney – pronounced like “money”, in case you didn’t pick up on that – the fact that his record company had no idea how to deal with him, the fact that his pick-up technique involves relentlessly approaching every single hot girl he sees until one of them takes him up on his offer and the fact that he let me style him for his show that evening, before telling me I was an honorary member of the Raider Klan collective that he leads. Oh, and the announcement that he much preferred shooting with me to shooting with GQ, which wasn’t a huge surprise, but definitely made my day/ month/ life (thanks, Purrp).
